Air France makes Red Sea a no-fly zone

On November 4, Air France suspended flights over the Red Sea region as a precautionary move to ensure the safety of its passengers and crews.

Some routes have been modified to avoid the zone, while other services that entail flying over certain airspace are being monitored, reports SimpleFlying.

The European Aviation Safety Agency has several active conflict zone information bulletins for countries in the Red Sea basin, including Israel, Sudan and Yemen.

When the airline implemented the ban, some Air France flights were forced to return to France and others rerouted.

Avoiding the zone has altered the routing and duration of flights between Paris and Nairobi, Paris and Dar es Salaam and Paris and Zanzibar.

AFP says the airline has confirmed the suspension "until further notice".

Air France is so far the only airline to have implemented a no-fly zone over the Red Sea. The airspace in the region has not officially been closed.
