EFFECTIVE July 1, Air
Mauritius will increase
its frequencies to Durban
from three to four flights
a week.
Currently MK flies
between Durban and
Mauritius on Mondays,
Wednesdays and
Saturdays operated by an
A319-100.
The fourth frequency
will be added on Sundays.
Flights will depart Durban
at 12h20 and arrive in
Mauritius at 18h10.
Return flights depart
from Mauritius on
Mondays, Tuesdays,
Thursdays and Sundays,
departing Mauritius at
09h00 and arriving in
Durban at 11h20.
“The Durban market
to Mauritius has grown
significantly, but in
particular to our beyond
international destinations,”
says regional manager
Southern Africa and Latin
America, Carla da Silva.
Melissa Phillips, owner
of Sure Map Travel, says
there has been a recent
increase in international
carriers flying out of
Durban.
Melissa says, as Air
Mauritius offers the only
direct flights out of Durban
it is the airline of choice
for Durban clients.
“While the flying time
for the direct DurbanMauritius flight is similar
to the Johannesburg
Mauritius flying time
(both about four
hours), connecting via
Johannesburg will almost
double a Durban client’s
journey as it will include
the Durban-Johannesburg
flight plus the connecting
time in Johannesburg,”
Melissa says.
She says the return Air
Mauritius flight (departure
09h00) does depart
a little early for some
clients, as it requires
them to check out of
their hotel, transfer to
the airport and check in
before 09h00.
She says, as a result,
she sometimes books
clients on the SAAoperated MK codeshare
flight which flies back
from Mauritius to
Johannesburg in the
afternoon.
