Airlink saw the successful inauguration of its new Malawi routes to Blantyre and Lilongwe on September 6.

Malawi has now become the latest country in Airlink’s comprehensive network, which now extends to 46 destinations.

“In launching Airlink’s services, we are helping to establish Malawi as an attractive destination for tourism and business and support its economic diversification strategy by providing convenient, reliable and competitive flights to Johannesburg and with convenient connections to other Airlink destinations and the rest of the world with our constellation of long-haul partners,” said Airlink CEO and MD, Rodger Foster.

Malawi’s many tourist attractions include Lake Malawi (Africa’s third-largest lake and the ninth biggest in the world), a variety of wildlife, unique adventures and its rich cultural heritage. The country has also embarked on a programme to revitalise its economy and build a prosperous, self-reliant and industrialised middle-income country.

Airlink will initially use the comfortable and efficient 37-seat Embraer Regional Jets on both new routes.

Flight 4Z 460 will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, departing from Johannesburg at 11h00 and arriving in Lilongwe at 13h20. The return flight 4Z 451 will depart from Lilongwe at 14h10 and arrive in Johannesburg at 16h35.

Flight 4Z 450 will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, departing from Johannesburg at 11h00 and arriving in Blantyre at 13h05. Return flight 4Z 451 will depart from Blantyre at 14h15 and arrive in Johannesburg at 16h35.

The flights will include a 20kg luggage allowance and offer passengers complimentary light meals, refreshments, generous leg-room and a choice of aisle or window seats.
