AIRLINK has applied

to the Department of

Transport for a number

of new routes as well as

additional capacity and

frequencies on some of its

existing regional routes.

Among other routes, the

airline has applied for three

flights a week between

OR Tambo and Nosy Be,

Madagascar; 650 seats a

week between Durban and

Nampula, Mozambique; and

two return flights a week

between Cape Town and

Manzini, Swaziland. If granted,

these will all be potential new

routes for the carrier.

However, Airlink is keeping

mum about its plans. Karin

Murray, marketing and sales

manager, told TNW that,

apart from the new flights

between Kruger Mpumalanga

International Airport and

Vilanculos launching on

June 19, there were “no new

routes at the moment. We

are merely busy with some

admin with the Council”.

She says, at this stage, it’s

the status quo.

Airlink has also applied

for additional flights and/

or capacity on some of its

routes. From OR Tambo

International Airport, the

airline has applied for 21

flights a week to Gaborone

and seven return flights a

week to Maun and Kasane in

Botswana; 12 return flights a

week to Maseru in Lesotho;

28 return flights a week to

Matsapha in Swaziland; 14

flights a week to Ndola and

Lusaka in Zambia; and seven

return flights to Antananarivo

in Madagascar. From Kruger

Mpumalanga International

Airport, the airline has

applied for seven return

flights a week to Livingstone

in Zambia.
