Amadeus reported a slight decline in its air bookings during the first quarter due to the Middle East conflict.
During its first quarter earnings call, Amadeus executives revealed that the company’s financials remained resilient despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
However, Luis Maroto, President and CEO of Amadeus, explained that conflict had generated disruptions in air traffic in the region, namely origin, destination, and stopover traffic, impacting booking volumes.
Carol Borg, CFO of Amadeus, noted that Amadeus’s airfare bookings in the first quarter of the year were 0,2% below booking volumes in the first quarter of 2025.
“Whilst our booking performance up to February was strong, accelerating relative to Q4, our March booking evolution was impacted by the Middle East situation,” said Borg. “This caused a reduction in air traffic to and from the impacted countries, as well as a deceleration in new bookings and an increase in booking cancellations for routes flying in and out or stopping over the countries involved in the Middle East situation.”
Maroto said Amadeus would closely monitor the uncertain macro and geopolitical context and its range of impacts. He predicted that the company might also see a slightly tempered performance in the second quarter of the year.
