Amsterdam to drop passenger cap

24 Jan 2023

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport will no longer restrict daily passenger movements from March 26.

The airport had originally implemented a passenger cap in July last year, limiting passenger numbers to 67 500 travellers per day, whereafter the number of daily passengers permitted was then increased to 72 500 per day in August.

The cap was extended to September and October, with passenger numbers limited to 67 500 and 69 500 travellers per day respectively.

At the end of October, the airport announced it would retain its passenger cap of 67 500 travellers per day until March this year.

But it has since confirmed it will have adequate staffing for the summer period to allow it to drop the cap, reports Simple Flying.

This comes after a major recruitment drive was launched in November last year. The airport has managed to recruit approximately half of the 850 security personnel it required so far and expects that the remainder will be recruited in the coming weeks and months.

It does, however, anticipate some challenges during the peak morning hours of 06h00 to 11h00.
