UN Tourism has announced that Armenia will host the 8th UN Tourism Global Conference on Wine Tourism in September.

Armenia has produced wine for more than six centuries, and conference delegates will be given the opportunity to visit the world’s oldest winery discovered to date: the Areni-1 cave near the Areni village in Southern Armenia.

The event will take place later this year from September 11 to September 13. Information on registration and the event programme will be available at a later date.

According to UN Tourism, the event will aim to connect “experts from across the growing field of wine tourism to work together to find concrete solutions to make tourism an enabler of the way forward towards a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient future for communities”.

Previous countries that have hosted the wine conference include Argentina, Chile, Georgia, Moldova, Portugal, and Spain.

“We eagerly look forward to welcoming everyone to Armenia, where our landscapes resonate with the stories of our vineyards, and the spirit of hospitality flows as generously as our finest wines,” said Sisian Boghossian, Head of the Tourism Committee of Armenia.
