Aviation lobbies for tests to replace quarantine

At a UN task force meeting on Tuesday, August 18, airlines and airports pushed for the recommendation that countries start accepting a negative COVID-19 test conducted within 48 hours before travel as an alternative to mandatory quarantine, Reuters reports.

According to a proposal by the Airports Council International and Iata, a test prior to departure could reduce the risk of importation by up to 90%.

This would enable air travel to open up between large numbers of countries without a quarantine requirement.
