Bali tourism tax starts in February

09 Jan 2024
Comments | 0

The Bali Provincial government has finalised the International Tourism Levy, a tax on inbound tourists, of US$10 (R188) per passenger, per trip. The tax will kick in on February 14.

The purpose of the tax is said to be to help preserve and sustain the island’s unique cultural heritage, at the same time supporting its ongoing commitment to sustainable tourism.

Tourists are encouraged to make the application payment through the Love Bali website or the app before arrival. A tourism levy voucher will be emailed, and passengers need to keep it on their smartphones for scanning at checkpoints at Bali Airport.

Bali has been plagued by very high tourism numbers post-COVID as well as having to address bad tourism behaviour. The governor of Bali has suggested a quota system limiting the numbers, but that has not yet been implemented.
