The Board of Airline Representatives of South Africa (Barsa) has announced that chairperson Fouad Caunhye will be stepping down.

Barsa announced on social media that Caunhye will be leaving his position as chairman on August 30, due to his new appointment at Qatar Airways where he will be based at the head office in Doha.

He was appointed as Barsa chair in August 2022, as reported by Travel News.  “Under his leadership, Barsa has regained industry trust and stability,” the organisation said.

Caunhye will be replaced by Barsa’s deputy Chairperson Bali Mabena, who will serve as acting Chairperson until the Barsa AGM in December 2024.

Bali Mabena is Head of Customer Service at SAA. “We extend our sincere gratitude to Fouad for his contributions and welcome Bali in her new role,” said Barsa.
