Belgian city plans day tripper tax

The Belgian city of Bruges has announced plans to expand its tourist tax to cruise passengers and tour coach arrivals from 2027.

If it is approved, those disembarking cruise ships in Zeebrugge and coach tour arrivals will have to pay the same €4 (R80) fee as overnight guests.

The new fee comes amid concerns that day trippers do not spend enough at restaurants and on shopping.
