Botswana camp unaffected by bushfire

A BUSHFIRE broke out on the southern section of the Chiefs Island, Botswana on April 21, 2003.
The fast burning fire burnt large tracts of land around Stanley's Camp. The fire was brought under control in a joint operation between the management and staff of Stanley's Camp and the local communities surrounding the concession.
There was no loss of life or damage to property. Operations at Stanley's Camp will continue as normal.
Fast burning bushfires such as these are a natural phenomenon and take place periodically within the Okavango Delta during the dry season. This process is an integral part of the natural cycle of the environment. Due to the speed at which the fire burnt, there was limited damage to the forested island areas.
