The Public Servants Association (PSA) is threatening to embark on a nationwide strike from November 10,  affecting border posts, including airports. Whether or not this will take place and to what extent operations at the airport will be affected, is still unknown.

The union says there will be no Home Affairs personnel to allow arriving and departing international passengers to enter and exit borders due to the strike.

Meanwhile, Acsa says it has contingency plans.

According to a November 9 article in The Citizen, Mpumi Mpofu, Acsa CEO, said: “We have been given an indication that it might be possible to have smooth running of flights without interruption, but in the airport ecosystem this strike is likely to impact (if it does go ahead) on the public service component of airport operations…There has been consultation with the SA Police and other key stakeholders… We are busy with an assessment on the ground and putting together contingency plans.”

Travel News will update the industry as soon as any more is known.
