Cape Town to host remaining Rugby Tour games

The City of Cape Town has welcomed the announcement by SA Rugby that the remainder of the British and Irish Lions tour games are being moved to Cape Town. The Mother City has already hosted two of the matches at the Cape Town Stadium – the Lions against the SA ‘A’ side and the Stormers’ warm up games – and the stadium will also host the most anticipated test match between the Lions and the Springboks.

"Cape Town is excited to host the first test this weekend, which will be the first Lions and Springbok clash to be held in the city since 1997. Our teams from the City and the Cape Town Stadium are working with the rugby authorities to ensure we make the upcoming games a memorable experience,” said executive Mayor, Alderman Dan Plato.

The change in the tour programme means that in addition to this Saturday’s match, Cape Town will now also host the second test, scheduled for July 31 and the third, on August 7.

Unfortunately, current National Disaster Management Act regulations still prohibit spectators at sports events.
