On Thursday, December 20, CemAir resumed operations after a High Court temporarily lifted SACAA’s decision. The airline’s Air Operator Certificates (AOCs) had been suspended by the South African Civil Aviation Authority.
Statements from the airline and the authority suggest that the two entities are still at loggerheads.
CemAir said it was given no details of its alleged safety contraventions and that the suspension related to a vacant position that was actually filled.
“This false and defamatory publication designed to unjustifiably attack CemAir’s pristine safety record is regrettable,” the airline said in a statement. “There is a strong perception amongst the employees of CemAir that the company is being targeted by the CAA.”
According to the CAA, the court did not exonerate the airline and its suspension was temporarily lifted with conditions.
