Over 60 000 child passports have been printed, according to the Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Siyabonga Cyprian Cwele.
The Minister spoke to eTNW after a media briefing at OR Tambo International Airport yesterday morning (December 13). He said that the printing of child passports had been fully rolled out and that SA minors with an Unabridged Birth Certificate (UBC) could apply to receive a child passport.
The government’s November 30 gazette confirmed that SA minors will have to carry a UBC unless travelling with a child passport. The gazette states that South African minors with child passports, which display both parents’ names, will not have to carry a UBC.
