Construction begins on Durban cruise terminal

Construction on the Port of Durban’s new cruise terminal began with an official ground breaking by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) and the KwaZulu Cruise Terminal (KCT) consortium.

KCT holds the 25-year port concession to handle financing, construction and operations for the new cruise terminal facility.

The new terminal development coincides with the extension of the City of Durban’s new beachfront promenade, as well as the future development of the Durban Point Waterfront.

Transnet will begin construction on a connecting section between the promenade and the new Cruise Terminal, which will give cruise passengers more direct access to the Central Beachfront.

During the 2019/20 cruise season, which runs from October 2019 until late April 2020, the Port of Durban is expected to welcome at least 17 cruise liners.
