Destination dupes on the rise

01 Mar 2024
The Turquoise Coast, Turkey.

Last year, Expedia published a list of predictions for travel in 2024 that explored the increasing popularity of destination dupes.

Now, TikTok and other social media applications have been promoting many more alternative destinations with a similarity to their more popular, overcrowded counterparts, reports euronews.com.

Destination dupes are recommended because they have fewer crowds and lower prices. They also benefit destinations such as Venice, which are struggling to cope with overwhelming numbers of tourists.

Destination dupes rising in popularity include:

  • Girona in place of Barcelona,

  • The Turquoise Coast in place of Saint-Tropez,

  • Treviso in place of Venice,

  • Procida in place of Capri on the Amalfi Coast,

  • Puglia in place of Santorini.
