Dubai steps in to solve ATNS woes

SA’s Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) has signed an agreement with Dubai Air Navigation Services (dans) to resolve its flight procedure maintenance delays.

ATNS says this partnership should enable it to complete its national flight procedure maintenance programme by April next year, ensuring compliance with international aviation standards.

Under the terms of the service level agreement, dans will provide ATNS with a minimum of two “highly skilled” Flight Procedure Designers over a period of three years.

Dans will also design and maintain at least 14 flight procedures annually, with the potential for this number to increase as more designers are onboarded.

“By utilising dans’ expertise and resources, we are not only speeding up our maintenance programme but also establishing a foundation for future innovations in flight procedure design,” said Matome Moholola, Acting CEO of ATNS.

ATNS and the Department of Transport have implemented a maintenance plan to address critical staff shortages, poor maintenance of navigation and surveillance systems and lapsed instrument flight procedures, which have negatively affected airlines operating at South African airports, as reported by Travel News.
