Emirates flies with SAF to LHR

As part of an expansion of its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) flight operations, Emirates has started flights to London Heathrow using SAF.

The carrier has become part of LHR’s SAF Incentive Programme, which aims to make SAF more affordable and accessible for all airlines operating at the airport.

Emirates said it had taken delivery of SAF from Shell Aviation to LHR and would contribute more than three million kilograms of SAF blended with conventional jet fuel to the airport until the end of the Northern hemisphere’s summer.

The UK government has mandated a SAF target of 10% per flight by the end of 2030 and an ambitious goal of 22% SAF by 2040. The new rules will take effect by the start of next year.
