Emirates upcycles aircraft material for accessories

From 2024, Emirates will launch a range of accessories recycled from its iconic Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft, including suitcases, belts and handbags.

The collection is designed by Emirates’ tailoring team and repurposes more than 14 tonnes of materials from its 2022 aircraft retrofitting. It includes first-class seating leather, fur from the captain’s seat, nylon from seatbelts and aluminium headrests for suitcase frames, shoes and other accessories.

According to the airline, each cabin retrofitting can provide up to 270kg of leather and almost 635kg of seat fabric. Each item in the capsule collection is handmade, and customers can personalise some one-of-a-kind bags.

Emirates has confirmed that the initiative will contribute to its sustainability drive, with all proceeds going to the Emirates Airline Foundation, which supports children in developing countries.
