Ethiopian Airlines flight 302, flying from Addis Ababa to Nairobi on Sunday morning, March 10, has crashed, killing all 157 people on board.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 Max, departed ADD at 08h38, and lost contact shortly after at 08h44. Ethiopian Airlines has sent staff to the crash site to assist.
Ethiopian ceo, Tewolde Gebremariam, visited the scene of the crash on Sunday morning, and confirmed that there were no survivors.
The airline has confirmed that the flight had 149 passengers of 35 nationalities on board. There were no South Africans on the flight. Senior Captain Yared Getachew, First Officer Ahmed Nur Mohammod and six other crew members died in the crash.
The airline has contacted the passengers’ families.
The aircraft departed Johannesburg early this morning, landing in Addis Ababa before taking off at 08h38.
Tewolde has stated that it is too early to speculate on the cause of the crash
