Etosha rolls out drone ban

Visitors to Namibia’s Etosha National Park are no longer permitted to bring drones into the park – even if they do not intend to use them.

According to the country’s Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, the decision follows increasing incidents of visitors flying drones without the necessary permissions, creating security risks and disturbances for other park guests.

A communication signed by Deputy Executive Director for Natural Resource Management within the ministry, Colgar Sikopo, confirmed that any visitor carrying a drone must leave it at the park’s entry gate and collect it again when exiting. This replaces the previous policy that allowed visitors to enter with drones if they had prior permission from park authorities.
