eVTOLs to ferry passengers in Greece

A new electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) service plans to ferry travellers from popular hotspots in Greece by 2026.

Aria Hotels announced the €50 million (R1 billion) project, saying the hotel group has already secured leases on 10 eVTOLs with a maximum range of 250 nautical miles and the capacity to recharge in under an hour.

The eVTOLs can accommodate up to five passengers at a time. The company will oversee the construction of vertiports in Athens, the southern mainland, and two locations in the Aegean islands. Each vertiport will have an electric charging station and a passenger relaxation area.

Aria Hotels, which currently operates over 70 hotels throughout Greece, said  the facilities would require significantly less space and cause minimal environmental impact compared with traditional airport infrastructure.

“Enhancing connectivity and offering unique travel experiences will attract more visitors; Aria is proud to boost tourism and create jobs across Greece while promoting sustainability,” said Makis Pantazatos, CEO of Aria Hotels.
