Gatwick trials parking robot

Stanley Robotics, a French start-up company, is set to trial valet parking robots at Gatwick Airport in August.

The robot, named STAN, is equipped with artificial intelligence that allows it to optimise parking lot space, as it is able to park cars more tightly than humans can.

How it works

Passengers will drive their car to the airport where it’s assigned a dedicated parking spot. They then request a robot via an app to capture their details. Customers are then shuttled to the terminal. STAN collects the vehicle from the parking area (without needing the car keys) and takes it to a secure parking where it will remain until the customer’s return.
