German LCC debuts in SA with direct flight

EUROWINGS, German
low-cost fully owned
subsidiary of the
Lufthansa Group, will enter the
South African market with a
direct seasonal flight between
Cape Town and Cologne,
Germany, commencing on
November 5.
André Schulz, gm of
Lufthansa Group, Southern
Africa says: “This is just the
next step in the Lufthansa
Group strategy to increase its
service offering to Southern
Africa.”
Last year, Lufthansa
announced a codeshare
service on flights to Cape
Town with Edelweiss Air. Earlier
this year, the airline also
announced that Eurowings
would fly from Cologne to
Namibia from July.
André said pre-bookings for
the Cologne-Namibia route had
been very good, and it was
therefore decided to introduce
more flights to Southern
Africa. The new flight is aimed
primarily at German and
European leisure travellers.
Flight EW 126 will depart
Cologne at 15h00 on Sundays
and arrive in Cape Town at
03h10 the following day.
Return flight EW 127 will
depart Cape Town on
Mondays at 04h40 and
arrive in Cologne at 16h45 on
the same day.
The last flight of the season,
flight EW 127, will depart
Cape Town on March 26,
2018.
The flights will be operated
with an Airbus A330 with 17
seats in premium economy
and 289 in economy.
A return flight in economy
class from Cologne to Cape
Town will be around €630
(R8 886), including taxes.
Flights are available for
booking on the GDS.
