Goa looks to attract digi-nomads

Minister of Tourism and IT, Rohan Khaunte, launched the ‘Workation Goa’ campaign last year with the idea of creating a hub for digital nomads.

The campaign includes coworking spaces in beachside locations such as Ashvem, Morjim, and Benaulim.

According to euronews, although India does not currently offer a dedicated digital nomad visa, the Goa government is working on this. Khaunte reportedly entered talks with the Prime Minister’s office in December last year to launch a remote work visa.

“We are trying to conceptualise a new visa, which we have taken up with the central government,” said Khaunte. “We are pretty sure that in days to come we are going to be the first state in the country to invite digital nomads.”

India currently offers a long-term, multi-entry visa for tourism purposes only and an e-tourist visa, which allows travellers to stay for either 30 days, one year or five years, provided they leave the country every 90 days.
