IATA launched its Turbulence

Aware data resource in

December, which helps

airlines avoid turbulence

when planning routes

tactically in flight. Delta Air

Lines, United Airlines and

Aer Lingus have signed up.

Currently, airlines rely on

pilot and weather service

reports to reduce the impact

of turbulence on operations

but the effectiveness of

this has been limited due

to the fragmentation and

inconsistencies of the data

collected the subjectivity of

the observations.

Turbulence Aware collects

data from multiple airlines

and consolidates it into

actionable information which

has resulted in the first

global, real-time, detailed

and objective information

for pilots and operations

professionals to manage

turbulence.

Turbulence is the leading

cause of non-fatal injuries

to passengers and crew.

Having access to accurate

turbulence data will enable

pilots to make informed

decisions about higher flight

levels with smoother air. This

will also result in optimal

fuel burn, which will reduced

CO2 emissions.
