Goodbye, Greyhound

04 Feb 2021
Comments | 0

Two long-distance intercity coach lines, Greyhound SA and its subsidiary, Citiliner, will cease operating their services on February 14. Passengers with tickets for either company for dates after February 14 will be refunded and should make contact with the companies – details are given on their websites.

Greyhound has been running for 37 years, since 1984.

While COVID has been blamed for the closures by bus-user groups on Facebook, the bus lines could also be victims of the extremely low domestic airfares currently on offer. A one-way ticket on Greyhound from Johannesburg to Cape Town is shown on the website at R450, whereas one-way tickets for Johannesburg-Cape Town flights on kulula.com start from R479 (only R29 more), or from R522 (R72 more), on FlySafair’s website.
