AIRBERLIN has filed a
provisional insolvency
proceeding in the local court
in Berlin-Charlottenburg in
order to continue with its
restructuring plan.
The development comes
after Etihad Airways withdrew
financial support, which it has
been providing to airberlin to
support its liquidity challenges
and restructuring over the
past six years. Etihad has also
exited Alitalia.
Lufthansa and the German
government are jointly
supporting the restructuring
effort.
This ensures that all aircraft
currently operated by airberlin
under a wet lease agreement
for Eurowings and Austrian
Airlines will continue operating
as usual, says a Lufthansa
statement.
Lufthansa is in what it
believes will be successful
negotiations with airberlin
to take over parts of the
airberlin Group and said it
was exploring the possibility of
hiring additional staff.
