The 350 Menzies ground-handlers at London Heathrow, represented by the Unite union, whose strike started at 04h00 on Friday, November 19, were due back at work this morning (November 21) at 04h00.

The union had warned that the three-day strike over pay would lead to disruption, cancellations and delays at Terminals 2, 3 and 4. “The strike action will particularly affect Air Canada, American Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, TAP Air Portugal, Austrian Airlines, Qantas, EgyptAir, Aer Lingus and Finnair,” it said.

Ground staff employed by Dnata were also originally planning to strike but the industrial action was called off after an improved offer was made and accepted.

Those employed by Menzies Cargo also suspended their strike so that members could be balloted on a new pay offer.

Miguel Gomez Sjunnesson, Executive Vice President Europe, Menzies Aviation, said: “I want to reassure our airline customers and their passengers that we have robust contingency plans in place should Unite elect to continue with unnecessary industrial action, and we are confident our operations will not be impacted.”
