Heathrow Airport is well on its way to recovery, with over 5,4 million passengers passing through the airport in January – the busiest start of the year since 2020.
Heathrow’s rolling 12-month traffic figure is now just under 64,5 million passengers – 80% of the record 80,9 million customers for all of 2019.
Overall passenger satisfaction is now at or above pre-pandemic levels. In January, 98% of passengers waited less than 10 minutes for security, results from Heathrow show, and the airport has once again been named Travel Weekly’s Best UK Airport.
“Heathrow is back to its best,” says CEO John Holland-Kaye, who will be stepping down later this year. “We are giving a warm welcome to families over the half-term getaway by delivering excellent service and bringing back the magic of travel.”
The airport also welcomes British Airways and Virgin’s announcement on restarting ticket sales to China.
The UK Border Force has successfully managed recent strike action and now is trialling the operation of eGates for children aged 10 and 11 in Terminal 5 over the half term. Heathrow is also supporting its goal of expanding the use of eGates to families and visa holders.
