Heathrow trials security slots

20 Oct 2023
Comments | 0

London Heathrow will trial a new security slot booking platform to reduce queuing in the airport.

‘Heathrow Timeslot’ is a free booking platform that will initially be available to Terminal 3 passengers flying with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic, with new airlines to join over the next six months, reports simplyflying.com.

Passengers will be able to book a designated time slot for passing through security, creating a more efficient security lane experience.

Passengers using Heathrow Timeslot will enter the security area via a designated entry point. Bookings can be made three days before scheduled departure and timeslots will be available to long-haul passengers up to 90 minutes before departure and to short-haul passengers up to 60 minutes before departure. Bookings can be made for groups of up to five people.

After making the booking, passengers will receive a QR code that they will present to the Heathrow Timeslot security. Slots are subject to availability and if there are none available, passengers will have to go through normal security.

Although Heathrow Timeslot is not a fast-track service, it will make the security process more orderly and reduce queueing times for passengers. Other airports, including Amsterdam Schiphol, Berline Brandenburg, Frankfurt, and Rome Fiumicino Airport also provide free security timeslot services.
