Here’s the ‘Not Hot List’

Intrepid Travel has released its latest ‘Not Hot List’ for 2025, shining a spotlight on lesser-known, overlooked and under-visited destinations to promote them and combat overtourism.

“The Not Hot List is Intrepid’s call to action for travellers around the world to seek out the beauty and intrigue of unsung locations and spread the positive impacts of tourism more evenly, to support more communities in gaining the economic and cultural benefits that thoughtful travel brings,” said Erica Kritikides, Intrepid Travel GM of Global Product.

Intrepid has released the Not Hot List annually since 2018. For 2025, the top spot on the list goes to Gilgit-Baltistan, a remote region in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountain range.

“Pakistan’s adventure tourism potential is undeniable. Yet, it attracts fewer than 20 000 adventure tourists annually, a stark contrast to Nepal’s two million yearly trekkers,” said Intrepid Travel.

Taking second place is Disko Island in Greenland. Full of fjords, valleys and basalt mountains, this destination is home to diverse wildlife such as whales, seals and unique bird species. The area only attracted 141 387 visitors in 2023, but is actively improving its tourism facilities.

Cape York in Australia came third. Located on the northern tip of Australia, the area is home to aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups with distinctive cultures and connections to the land.

The top 10 ‘Not Hot’ destinations for 2025:

  1. Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
  2. Disko Island, Greenland
  3. Cape York, Australia
  4. The Adirondacks, US
  5. Sainshand, Mongolia
  6. Rupununi Savanna, Guyana
  7. Anti-Atlas Mountains, Morocco
  8. Accra, Ghana
  9. Maldonado, Uruguay
  10. Oslo, Norway
