Global hotel brand, Hilton, is set to rebrand Nairobi’s Amber Hotel by December.
The rebranding is part of a Sh5.2 billion ($50 million) plan to open an estimated 100 hotels in Africa over the next five years.
In a statement, Hilton said the renovations to the 109-room Amber Hotel would be in time for opening at the end of the year, according to the Daily Nation. Facilities are being aligned with Hilton’s international standards.
The property will be rebranded and renamed DoubleTree by Hilton and will continue to be owned by the current owners under a franchising agreement.
In addition to the Amber Hotel, Hilton Worldwide is also converting the 153-room Ubumwe Grande Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda, with completion expected in 2018, making this the first Hilton hotel in the country.
The company also plans to open a hotel in Upper Hill in Kenya at the planned Pinnacle Tower development. The building is expected to Africa’s tallest building once complete.
Hilton Worldwide is also developing a 171-room hotel, the Garden Inn, near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
PricewaterhouseCoopers estimates that 13 hotels will be developed and set up in Kenya over the next five years.
