Intrepid adds new trips to rail range
Intrepid Travel has added new trips to its existing rail range. These include journeys in Vietnam, China, Laos, Malaysia, Kenya and northern Sweden.
The new trips build on Intrepid’s pre-existing range, which now features 50 trips. Each rail trip is accompanied by one of Intrepid’s local leaders.
The new trips include:
- Kenya by Rail – Trains, Safari and Beaches (10 days): Travellers can spot zebras and elephants from the window as they pass through two of Kenya’s national parks on the Madaraka Express.
- Malaysia’s Jungle Railway (10 days): A journey through remote, lesser-known parts of Malaysia, where lush jungles and limestone cliffs line the route.
- China and Laos – Kunming to Bangkok by Rail (11 days): Travel on the first cross-border bullet train from China through Laos and onwards to Bangkok by overnight train on an overland trip.
- Vietnam and China – Hanoi to Kunming by Rail (11 days): A journey through Vietnam’s Sapa region to China, experiencing Tibetan culture in Shangri-La before travelling to hike Tiger Leaping Gorge.
- Northern Sweden by Rail (nine days): A trip through Abisko National Park, stopping at remote villages and outposts near the polar circle.
Eurostar ups London-Amsterdam frequency
Eurostar will offer five daily services on its London-Amsterdam route from December.
The operator currently offers three daily trips. This will increase to four from September 9 and five from December 15.
Eurostar reintroduced direct services between Amsterdam Centraal and London St Pancras in February, following the opening of a new cross-channel terminal in the Dutch hub.
The terminal will allow Eurostar to triple its capacity on the route from 275 passengers in 2024 to more than 650 passengers per train by the end of this year.
Services resume in the Austrian Alps
The Tauern railway reopened on July 14, restoring major rail routes through the Austrian Alps.
Overnight services from Stuttgart and Salzburg to Venice have resumed as well as the Nightjet service from Munich to Rome, according to The Guardian.
The Tauern railway tunnel has been closed since November 2024 due to landslides.
