Host cities announced for 2026 FIFA World Cup

The 16 host cities across three countries that will hold matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup were announced on Sunday. The final match will be hosted at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Recognised as the world’s biggest sporting event, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11, with the final game being played on July 19.

FIFA has planned the tournament in three regional zones to ensure minimal travel for tourists and teams. The 2026 event returns to North America after 32 years.

For the first time, the tournament will include 48 teams. These will be divided into four groups of 12 teams, a new format for the World Cup. This will give fans more opportunities to attend matches, with each team playing an extra game.

Eric Adams, New York City Mayor, expressed his enthusiasm on social media. “The world’s game is coming to the world’s biggest stage. We are ready to take the pitch. See you in ’26!”
