Six months before Hurtigruten Norway’s 130th anniversary, the cruise line, in partnership with Rathfinny Wine Estate in the UK, submerged 1 700 bottles of wine 30m beneath the Norwegian Sea to age at almost zero degrees Celsius.
The experiment was conducted in honour of the collaboration and the cruise line’s anniversary. The wine was recovered and sampled on July 2 during the anniversary celebrations with the assistance of Nikolai Haram Svorte, Norway’s top-rated sommelier.
Havets Bobler (Bubbles from the Sea), the unique bubbly 2018 blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Lumière and Chardonnay which was recovered from the depths, was inspired by wine bottles found on a 170-year-old Finnish shipwreck, reported forbes.com.
The Hurtigruten MS Trollfjord, on which the anniversary celebrations were held, exclusively offers a selection of 14 aquavits.
1893, the name of the bar on MS Trollfjord, serves local spirits with seasonal ingredients. Its signature cocktail, ‘Epleslang’ is a mixture of apple liqueur, apple spirit, fresh apple and lime. Bar Manager Kim Seac’h explained the meaning of the cocktail: "It's that guilty but pleasurable feeling you get as a child when you steal an apple from your neighbour's tree.”
