Jambojet, Kenya’s low-cost carrier, has announced the launch of a new route between Mombasa and Zanzibar from July 1, 2024.

Jambojet Chairperson Vincent Rague announced the four-times weekly route and the launch of ticket sales at the combined East African Regional Tourism Expo and Magical Kenya Travel Expo in Nairobi on Tuesday, November 21.

“Mombasa plays a significant role in our network, contributing 33% to our revenues and passenger numbers. Venturing into Zanzibar presents exciting opportunities for both nations and we are delighted to play a fundamental role in the development and growth of this market,” said Rague.

The launch is in line with the East African Community’s aim of marketing the economic bloc’s seven partner states as a single tourist destination. The East African Tourism Marketing Strategy aims to position the region as a leading sustainable tourism destination, with objectives focused on developing competitive multi-destination products and branding as a single tourism destination.

“Aligned with this strategy is our decision to expand to Tanzania, which is also rooted in the evolving dynamics of travel in East Africa, increased exports and growing tourism statistics between Kenya and Tanzania, emphasising the growing connection between the two countries,” Rague said.

The new flights are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, departing Mombasa at 15h35, with the return flight departing Zanzibar at 17h10.
