Kenya scraps visas for Africans by 2024

Kenya’s Head of State, President William Ruto, has announced that the country will allow Africans to enter without a visa from January next year.

According to the African Development Bank, only three other countries had done away with visas for African travellers by the end of 2022. These are Benin, Seychelles, and Gambia.

“As Kenya, by the end of this year, no African will be required to have a visa to come to Kenya,” said President Ruto during a climate change conference held in Congo-Brazzaville, as reported by BBC.com.

A visa-free Africa is part of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 development framework. It aims to “achieve inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development over a 50-year period”, and the movement of people is key in this framework.
