KLM piles on capacity to Cape Town

KLM will add three Cape Town flights per week to its schedule ahead of its 30th anniversary on the route.

From November 1, it will offer 10 weekly services between Cape town and Amsterdam. The additional flights will complement the current seven daily services, which leave Amsterdam at 10h30 and depart from Cape Town at midnight.

At the moment, the additional flights will only be offered during the Northern hemisphere winter schedule but, according to Air France-KLM Country Manager for Southern Africa, Wilson Tauro, the airline would like to offer the service year round. He says this, however, is dependent on global market dynamics.

The Cape Town services are operated with a combination of aircraft – the B777-300, the B777-200, and the B787-900 Dreamliner.

KLM recently began retrofitting its new premium economy cabin on its Dreamliner fleet, and the task is set to be completed on all its B787-900 Dreamliners by March 2023.

The additional flights to Cape Town will be operated with the B787-900 Dreamliner, so there will be more premium economy capacity available on the route by March next year.
