Lagos operations relocate

Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport has had to relocate several operations due to a fire on September 6.

The change has caused significant delays for passengers.

The fire at the International Terminal 1 meant passenger processing had to be moved to the new international terminal to ensure the safety and security of travellers. The relocation had originally been scheduled for October 1, however the urgency of the situation pushed up the timeline, reported airspace-africa.com.

According to some reports, the airport’s management and authorities were not prepared for the scale and complexity of relocating operations within such a short timeframe.

Ground-handlers have reported issues with capacity at the new terminal. While it can handle smaller aircraft like the Boeing 737 or Airbus 320, some sources say it struggles to accommodate larger aircraft such as the Boeing 777.

The aviation authority issued a statement emphasizing its commitment to passenger safety and comfort and acknowledging the inconvenience faced by travellers. It pledged to resolve the concerns by introducing measures such as enhanced signage, dedicated support staff, and improved communication channels.
