Lake Como is planning to introduce a day-tripper fee due to the area being overwhelmed by tourists.

According to euronews.com, the lake receives about 1,4 million visitors a year.

Last summer, Villa del Balbianello, the lakeside villa that appeared in the James Bond and Star Wars films, had to limit its daily entries from 2 000 to 1 200 people to protect the historic house and the lake’s environmental integrity.

The mayor of Como, Alessandro Rapinese, says the city will adopt Venice’s plan to charge daily visitors. However, a start date for the introduction of the fee and its cost have not been announced yet.
