The Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism has revealed the details of the 18th Limpopo Marula Festival to celebrate the indigenous tree and its fruits.

In his speech, Rodgers Monama, MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism in Limpopo, announced that the Marula Festival would be hosted in Phalaborwa from April 26 to May 4. The festival will include sporting and cultural events, where marula fruit beverages will be available.

The marula beverage is prepared by 60 women who belong to co-operatives from all districts of Limpopo. This year, 12 000 litres of the drink will be made available.

With a vibrant mix of events, the festival will include a cultural parade on April 26 from Wildevye Park to Impala Park Stadium, a marathon on April 27 from PMC to Impala Park Stadium, a theatre and film festival on May 2 at the Namakgale Community Hall, the Marula Golf Challenge on May 4 at the Ba-Phalaborwa Golf Course, and an open-air concert on May 4 at Impala Park Stadium.

The festival will also feature an SMME flea market with 30 small business owners within the marula industry. Products such as marula jam, marula peanut butter and marula soap will be on sale.
