Great Britain is planning to turn a series of London underground rail tunnels used during World War 2 into a tourist attraction, museum and showpiece.

Organisers are waiting for approval to begin the construction of the project, however, they have already started planning and releasing details about the museum and its immersive adventure experiences in the old “spy tunnels” of the famous London Underground.

The tunnels housed a variety of activity during the war. They also acted as shelters from the blitzkrieg and were a base for Special Operations Executive, a branch of the famous MI6 and the real-life inspiration for Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond series of novels.

Additionally, the tunnels served as a telephone exchange with a direct hotline between the US, Great Britain and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

Said the project’s fund manager, Angus Murray: “The history of the tunnels, their scale and the location between London’s Holborn and the historic Square Mile, could make these tunnels one of London’s most popular tourist destinations.”
