The Lufthansa Group has expanded its long-haul network and now connects Namibia's capital, Windhoek, with its largest hub in Frankfurt, in co-operation with Eurowings.
The inaugural event of the new route was held at Hosea Kutako International Airport.
The German airline will fly the route three times a week, year round. The new flight will be offered on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Flight LH5434 will depart from Frankfurt at 20h00 and arrive in Windhoek at 07h20. The return flight LH5435 will take off from Windhoek at 09h30 on the following days and land in Frankfurt at 19h05.
The flight can be booked through both Lufthansa and Eurowings.
The new route provides passengers from Windhoek direct access to 177 destinations in 72 countries, benefiting from 2 886 weekly frequencies from Frankfurt alone. Passengers also profit from the entire Lufthansa Group network of 10 775 weekly frequencies to 270 destinations in 105 countries worldwide.
"With this new flight, customers can have access to our vast worldwide network, and we are looking forward to connecting Namibia with the world. Travellers can benefit from excellent connections and a variety of attractive destinations," says Dr André Schulz, gm Southern Africa, Lufthansa Group.
Germans were the largest overseas group of foreign tourists to Namibia in 2017, and Germany is in the top ten overseas tourist markets category, according to the latest figures from the Namibia Tourism Board.
Eurowings will also take over existing flights from Frankfurt to Mauritius and from Munich to Bangkok.
Seats in economy class and premium economy will be available on all flights from mid-March 2020. Business class can be booked now.
