Lufthansa introduces free messaging on long-haul flights

Lufthansa has introduced unlimited free messaging on its long-haul intercontinental flights, including those to and from South Africa.

Passengers can send and receive any number of messages, including photos, during the flight on their smartphones or tablets via the familiar apps, such as WhatsApp and iMessage, regardless of their travel class.

According to Heiko Reitz, Chief Customer Officer at Lufthansa, the offer is already a great success on the airline’s short- and medium-haul flights, and it is expected to be very popular with passengers on long-haul flights as well.

“Being reachable, even during a long flight, has long been a basic need and a decisive factor when choosing an airline. Free messages, as well as in-flight Internet, for example, therefore offer a portfolio of digital services that is very attractive to our customers,” says Reitz.

The Lufthansa Group’s SWISS and Austrian Airlines, will also offer free messaging on selected long-haul flights.
