Lufthansa secures no-strike deal

Lufthansa and the German pilots’ union, Vereinigung Cockpit, have reached an agreement on a pay increase for cockpit crew at the airline.

The pilots will receive an increase in their basic monthly salary of €490 (R8 486) in two stages, the first stage takes effect from August 1, 2022, and the second from April 1, 2023.

An entry-level co-pilot will receive about 20% additional basic pay, while a captain in the final grade will receive 5,5%.

Included in the agreement is a comprehensive peace obligation, which is effective until June 30, 2023. According to the obligation, pilots may not strike during this period, giving customers and employees planning security.

The agreement is still subject to detailed formulation and approval by the responsible bodies.
