The travel sector has had a major boost recently by performances from Beyonce and Taylor Swift. Now Madonna has become the latest to profoundly influence the sector.

The final concert of her Celebration Tour boosted Rio de Janeiro’s hotel occupancy to 62% in May, according to data from CoStar, an online real estate analytics provider.

Throughout the month, the average daily rate of Rio’s hotels increased by 19,9% to BRL729,06 (R2 403). Revenue per available room rose by 27,2% to BRL452,14 (R1 490).

According to traveldailynews.com, Madonna’s website said the show had been the largest ever during her four-decade career.

May 4 set a record for Rio hotels’ highest occupancy rate when Madonna concluded her Celebration Tour with a free concert on Copacabana Beach. According to Rio City Hall’s tourism industry, about 1,6 million people attended the show – almost 10 times more than Madonna’s record attendance of 130 000 at Paris’s Parc des Sceaux in 1987.

Hotel occupancy increased to 83,9% for the day, exceeding the previous record set in November 2023. The average daily rate jumped to BRL1 225,95 (R4 040), and revenue per available room was BRL1 028,83 (R3 390).
