Maputo fares likely to go up

BA COMAIR has axed
ights to Maputo from
OR Tambo International
Airport. As a result,
airfares to the destination
will likely go up, says ce of
Comair, Erik Venter.
The airline ceased
operations to Maputo on
February 8, after only nine
months. Comair could
not secure the rights
to offer a double-daily
service, making the route
commercially unviable for
the airline, Erik said.
He added that travel
agents and their clients
were likely to see an
increase in airfares as
there was now a lack of
competition on the route,
which is currently serviced
by SAA and LAM.
The airlines enjoy a
codeshare agreement on
the route.
Passengers already
booked with BA Comair
will be re-accommodated
by the airline on SAA at
no additional cost.
Un-ticketed bookings will
be cancelled.
